I tested tershine Elevate Snow in my foam lance and ended up standing in the wash bay with a big grin. A foam that covers well, does the job and is fun to use.
What is Elevate Snow?
Elevate Snow is a pre-wash foam from the Swedish brand tershine, made to be sprayed over the car before you touch it with a wash mitt. The idea is simple: the foam settles over the paint, loosens dirt and traffic film, and you rinse most of it away before the contact wash. Less dirt left on the paint means less risk of scratches. That is the theory, but how does it perform in real life?
How I used it, step by step
Step 1: Mix
I poured roughly 50 to 100 ml into my one litre foam lance bottle, so a dilution of about 1:10. A confession here: measuring and mixing made me feel like a chemist. A bit of a mad scientist moment actually, especially given the striking colour of the liquid. Completely unnecessary for the result, but great fun.
Step 2: Foam the car
Connect the foam lance to your pressure washer and lay an even layer over the whole car, bottom to top. This is where Elevate Snow delivered right away. The foam sat thick and even and covered the car really well. It was simply fun to foam with, because the result looked so good.
Step 3: Let it dwell
Let the foam sit for a few minutes and do its work. Use the time to prepare your buckets and wash mitt, or just stand there admiring your white car for a while. No judgement, I did the latter myself.
Step 4: Rinse
Rinse thoroughly with the pressure washer, top to bottom. The car is then ready for a contact wash, or done if it was only lightly dirty.
How well did it work?
My car was only lightly dirty when I tested it, and there it worked very well. My expectation was that it would foam incredibly well, and it lived up to that fairly well. Maybe not a foam that defies gravity, but thick, even and covering. For a regular maintenance wash that is exactly what you want.
Scent and colour
Elevate Snow smells quite nice, but I would have liked a bit more scent. To be fair, that may have been my surroundings, a self-service wash bay is not exactly a flower meadow. The liquid in the bottle has a really cool colour. It adds nothing to the result, but it is a fun touch that adds to the premium feel. And to the chemist feeling, of course.
Is it worth the money?
I have tried a few other pre-wash products, and purely on results I would call them fairly equal. The difference is in the whole package: tershine offers a more premium feel and the product is more concentrated, so the bottle lasts longer than you might expect. Yes, it is a bit more expensive. But if you enjoy taking care of your car, it can be worth it. Washing the car is fun, so why not treat yourself?
Quick tips for the best result
- Dose 50 to 100 ml per litre in the foam lance, roughly 1:10.
- Foam from the bottom up, rinse from the top down.
- Let the foam dwell for a few minutes, but never let it dry on the paint.
- Wash in the shade or indoors in a wash bay if you can.
